PRS Presents: Mirror Therapy
Mirror Therapy is a successful therapy approach developed to treat phantom pain, regional pain syndrome and CVA.
Simple to build:
Take a 12″X 12″ mirror (available at any home improvement store) and tape it securely to a box, one side of the box cut out. The inside bottom of the box has velvet cloth to increase sensitivity and promoting comfort.
Simple to use:
Place the affected hand in the box: can be amputated hand or the affected hand in a stroke patient. The unaffected hand placed in front of the mirror, performing exercises.
The theory is that this neurological training method is forming new neural pathways normalizing tone in a stroke. In the amputee limb, it would decrease pain allowing for fitting of a prosthesis.
