A Daughter’s Gratitude…..

As 2017 comes to a close we find ourselves reflecting on our journey throughout the previous year and where life has taken us.  As a therapy provider in the geriatric community we experience just how fragile life is and the effects we have on our patients as they approach each day sometimes not knowing whether or not there may be another. However, we are afforded the opportunity to have a positive impact, giving someone just a little more attention, love, or  comfort so they know they are not alone.

I’ve been an occupational therapist for over 30 years now and I continue to enjoy the relationships made and the lives touched even if it is just a little cog in the big wheel of life, that helps get someone else get through a difficult time or just their everyday routine.  At Prime Rehabilitation Services we take pride knowing we have a staff of therapists who feel the same way and give of them self emotionally and physically, making their patients their priority. That’s why when I received a copy of this note expressing a daughter’s gratitude to Fal, a PRS therapist, it touched my heart and I was compelled to share.

“My mother drove me crazy at times, as you know, but she was well-meaning, and I know she loved me, and she is missed very much. I will be driving and hear Andrea Bocelli, or something about NJ, and start to cry. Not a good time to get emotional, but it hits whenever it feels like hitting.

And you are one of the few people that also knew and loved my mother, so I feel a very special kinship with you. It took a strong and perceptive person to see through all the bravado and crap, and really appreciate what a good person, albeit scared and lonely, person that she was. So I cannot thank you enough for being there for her, and I want you to remain in my life as well.

This is a very long Happy Holidays email. I also want to say that if you ever want to get away and have a look at Boston, mi casa es tu casa.”

Fal’s day to day presence and gracious attitude helped make a sad situation just a little easier for the family to bare. I want to believe that as 2018 approaches we can all learn from Fal and the other clinicians who embrace their opportunities to make another person’s day just a little bit brighter.

On behalf of everyone at Prime Rehabilitation Services and Mobile Therapy Services, we wish you all a Very Happy New Year’s. May 2018 be everything you want it to be!
